WORK PROCESS

I had very little experience drawing, painting and thinking creatively before coming into college. Throughout highschool, I was a photographer for the school Newspaper, as well as the Yearbook staff. I began playing with Photoshop in 8th grade, following YouTube tutorials for hours every day, until I memorized the software. Upon coming into college, I was shocked to find how much I fell in love with drawing, though I had a lot of catching up to do.

I knew I wanted to do Illustration with my work once I started thinking about symbolism and taking Sociology courses. After taking these classes, it opened my mind to a new style of artwork I could create, I could now deliberately create things that made people uncomfortable and push boundaries. Through this sense of expression, I developed my own style.

Through pushing myself and constantly looking for ways to improve my knowledge of the subject matter, I rapidly improved in my work. Through critiques I challenged people and stood my ground when challenged, I decided that I would not only challenge myself, but those around me, and through this I learned that art students take things very personally and once challenged would go out of their way to give you a harder critique of your work, causing you to become a better artist.
